Overseas Chinese Media Visit Khorgos Port, Observe Developments at Sixth-Generation Border Gate

KHORGOS, Aug. 17 — Journalists participating in the “2025 Overseas Chinese Media Xinjiang Tour” visited Khorgos Port between China and Kazakhstan on Aug. 17. They toured the sixth-generation border gate and the Border Gate Cultural Exhibition Hall, gaining insights into the historical development of the border and current regional cooperation initiatives.

At the Border Gate Cultural Exhibition Hall, journalists reviewed exhibits including photographs, documents, and artifacts, providing a clear picture of Khorgos’ historical role on the Silk Road and recent infrastructural and trade developments under China-Kazakhstan cooperation.

The visit also included the China-Kazakhstan International Border Cooperation Center, the world’s first cross-border free trade cooperation zone. The center illustrates practical collaboration between China and Kazakhstan in trade and other sectors. Inside the trade zone, a variety of products from China and Central Asian countries are available, reflecting active cross-border commerce and regional connectivity.

The journalists noted that the visit provided a direct understanding of Xinjiang’s strategic position within the Belt and Road Initiative. The sixth-generation Khorgos border gate functions as both a trade gateway and a regional development hub. Observers say that ongoing projects in the Silk Road Economic Belt’s core area will continue to facilitate cross-border trade and cooperation.(LJI by Rudy)
