TORONTO, September 22, 2026 – During the Jewish High Holy Days, York Regional Police have increased community patrols and are rotating mobile command posts through several locations in Vaughan and Thornhill. On September 22, the police command post was set up at the JCC Vaughan Jewish Community Centre and was open from noon to 10 p.m.
Police said residents may see more officers around synagogues, other places of worship, community centres and some residential areas in the coming days. Officers on site will patrol the area, take reports from residents and respond to community safety concerns.
The mobile command post will rotate among three locations: the JCC Vaughan Jewish Community Centre on Bathurst Street, Garnet A. Williams Community Centre on Clark Avenue West, and Promenade Mall in Thornhill.
According to the current schedule, the command post will be at Garnet A. Williams Community Centre on September 23 and move to Promenade Mall on September 24. The deployment will continue until October 10, with most dates operating from noon to 10 p.m.
York Regional Police also said they are maintaining contact with municipal, provincial and federal law enforcement and intelligence partners, with a focus on possible hate-motivated incidents. The increased police presence is a preventive holiday deployment and does not mean that specific safety incidents have occurred at all locations where mobile command posts are being set up.
