“Cultural China · Huaxing Shines” — 2025 Summer Night of Ethnic Dance Gala and the 20th Anniversary Celebration of Toronto Huaxing Art Troupe Successfully Held

Toronto — On July 26, the Toronto Huaxing Art Troupe, in collaboration with the Canada Vienna Arts Centre, successfully hosted the 2025 Summer Night of Ethnic Dance Gala at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, marking the troupe’s 20th anniversary.

The evening brought together multicultural performance groups and diverse art forms, presenting a spectacular blend of classical and contemporary styles, and bridging Eastern and Western cultures.

Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the troupe, guests extended heartfelt congratulations, and the audience joined in a warm chorus of “Happy Birthday,” creating an atmosphere filled with celebration and emotion.

The first half of the gala opened with the Canada Vienna Arts Centre choir performing Love in the Beautiful Maple City. A series of dances followed, including Tibetan dance Pastoral Song of Joy, classical dance A River of Clear Water, the South China Dance Group’s Flowers Blooming Across the City, contemporary dance Summer Night Courtyard, and the Huaxing Art Troupe’s original folk dance Ode to Sorghum, each showcasing the unique charm of different ethnic traditions and artistic styles.

The second half began with the lively dance drama Joy on the Branch, followed by contemporary dance What the World Gives Me, the duet Drinking Song, Hongfeng Wanxia Art Troupe’s Powder and Rouge Dan Role, Xinjiang dance Moonlight over Sayram Lake, and classical dance Ink · Misty Rain at Yuntai. These works highlighted both the elegance of traditional Chinese opera and the dynamic energy of modern stage art.

In the finale, the Canada Vienna Arts Centre choir delivered A Toast to My Friends and On the Baikal Shore. The gala reached its peak when Huaxing Art Troupe President Chen Gong and Artistic Director Zhang Hong made a surprise appearance with an impromptu performance, winning thunderous applause.

Marking two decades of dedication to art, this celebration was both a milestone and a new beginning. The Toronto Huaxing Art Troupe will continue to promote multicultural exchange and foster cultural dialogue between Canada and China.(LJI by Rudy)
