TORONTO, September 11, 2026 – The musical comedy Girl Group held its world premiere at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival on September 11. Writer, director and star Rebel Wilson appeared on the red carpet at Roy Thomson Hall with several members of the creative team. CCTVmedium also participated in on-site interviews at the event.
Girl Group is Wilson’s second feature as director following The Deb. This time, she also serves as writer, director and star, playing pop singer Tassie Young. After facing a low point in her career, Tassie begins coaching a group of young girls hoping to enter the entertainment industry as part of a community service arrangement, leading her to confront her own career and life again.
The film is presented as a musical comedy and brings together actors and pop performers from different generations. Jennifer Coolidge, Randall Park, Sheridan Smith, Nicole Scherzinger, Melanie C, Ashley Roberts, Shaznay Lewis and Loren Gray are among the cast members. Through the formation of a new girl group, the film brings pop music, stage performance and cooperation among women of different ages into the story.
On premiere day, Rebel Wilson and cast members including Randall Park, Sheridan Smith, Loren Gray and Mia Kaplan attended the festival’s red carpet events. The film is also a world premiere selection in this year’s TIFF Gala Presentations programme.
Girl Group premiered at Roy Thomson Hall at 5:30 p.m. on September 11, with another festival screening scheduled for September 12 at Scotiabank Theatre.（LJI by Yuanyuan）
