Overseas Chinese Media Delegation Visits Guyuan Lane Community in Urumqi’s Tianshan District

Urumqi, August 15, 2025 — On August 15, the “Overseas Chinese Media Xinjiang Tour” delegation visited Guyuan Lane Community in Erdaoqiao Subdistrict, Tianshan District, Urumqi, to learn about the community’s innovative approaches in public service, cultural promotion, and fostering ethnic unity.

During the visit, local officials introduced the community’s development. Upholding the理念 of providing services that are “as meticulous as embroidery and as caring as family,” Guyuan Lane Community has focused on addressing practical needs and has won the trust and support of residents from all ethnic groups.

To better serve both the elderly and children, the community has restructured its office space to create more public service facilities. It has established an elderly care center and a full-range service system for children aged 0–12, while also offering 12 interest classes such as Peking Opera workshops for youth, a senior music ensemble, a senior dance team, and an intangible cultural heritage exhibition hall.

The community has also partnered with third-party organizations such as Kunlun Academy, Zhiyuan Social Service Center, and the Chen Ying Studio, introducing programs including traditional Chinese culture classes, Peking Opera training, and the “Sunshine Barlang” youth program. These initiatives begin with classics such as The Three Character Classic, The Thousand Character Classic, and The Hundred Family Surnames, and extend to calligraphy, painting, opera, dance, handicrafts, and chess, making traditional culture both accessible and engaging for residents.

Cultural events have become a highlight of community life. In recent years, Guyuan Lane Community has organized activities such as the “24 Solar Terms” cultural series, the “Hundred-Family Banquet for Ethnic Unity,” and neighborhood festivals. To date, 146 cultural events have been held, attracting over 20,000 participants and creating a platform for residents to strengthen friendships, showcase talents, and enjoy a shared cultural life.

In addition, the community has pioneered a “Residents’ Discussion Point” where volunteers provide face-to-face services to collect public opinions, mediate disputes, and share legal and policy information. Through residents’ meetings, consultation sessions, and homeowners’ assemblies, the community has successfully addressed issues such as parking shortages, blocked fire lanes, sanitation concerns, and utility access, significantly improving the living environment.

Members of the media delegation commented that Guyuan Lane Community in Tianshan District, Urumqi, has seamlessly combined culture and public service, offering meticulous, people-centered care that creates a warm, vibrant, and inclusive home for residents of all ethnic backgrounds—an inspiring model of modern community governance in Xinjiang.(LJI by Rudy)
