Canada Warns of Choking Risk from Online Pacifier Clips

TORONTO, June 12, 2026 – Health Canada issued a safety alert on June 10 warning that COHEALI wooden baby pacifier clips previously sold on Amazon.ca may pose a choking hazard. Health Canada said the product is intended for children under three years old, and the screw connecting the wooden pieces and metal clip may loosen. Consumers should immediately stop using the product and safely dispose of it in a way that prevents it from being used again.

The alert has practical importance for new parents, newcomer families, grandparents caring for infants and toddlers, and home child-care providers. Many families buying baby products first look at price, ratings and delivery speed, but may not check Canadian recall records. This is especially true for small items purchased online. A product may look normal on the outside, but if small parts such as screws, beads or clips become loose, they can create risks for infants and young children.

Health Canada information shows that Amazon.ca reported 762 units of the affected product sold in Canada, and one related incident has been reported to Health Canada. The product has been removed from Amazon.ca. However, Health Canada said the foreign seller did not respond to a voluntary recall request, so consumers are being advised to stop using and discard the product immediately.

This does not mean all pacifier clips are unsafe, nor does it mean all children’s products bought online are dangerous. The real reminder is that parents should not treat e-commerce platform reviews as the only measure of safety. Newcomer families, grandparents or temporary caregivers may also have difficulty identifying whether an item at home is the same product if they do not know its English name.

In daily life, many baby products are passed between relatives and friends or sold at low prices in second-hand groups. Pacifier clips, baby rockers, cribs, toys and small appliances without manuals or purchase records should be checked through Canada’s recalls and safety alerts database before use, using the brand, model and appearance description. Health Canada also reminds consumers that they can report health or safety issues through the Consumer Product Incident Report form.

Families with infants or toddlers should check whether they have purchased or received a COHEALI wooden baby pacifier clip. If they cannot confirm whether it is the same product, they should stop using it first, then check product pages, order records or recall information. Before buying new baby and toddler products, parents should also try to choose items that meet Canadian safety standards, provide clear information and have reachable after-sales support.(LJI by Yuanyuan)
